Last updated 1 February 2024

We want to make governance changes to make your college more adaptive and effective whilst strengthening the Board and Faculties. Any changes would require your approval at a General Meeting. It's your opportunity to help build a stronger RACGP that's ready to support you for tomorrow's challenges.

In just five years, we've grown from around 40,000 members to more than 50,000, with revenue doubling and staff numbers tripling. This growth brings both opportunities and challenges. Now we need your help to ensure our governance structure evolves to match this expansion while maintaining commitment to our purpose, to ensure a general practice profession that keeps Australia Health. More than 80% of members who responded to our recent survey, support an initiative to streamline and future-proof our governance structure.

To effectively serve our enlarged membership and respond to rapid changes in healthcare delivery, we need a governance model that is fit-for-purpose. While maintaining strong GP representation remains crucial, our current structure makes it difficult to incorporate other vital perspectives, including patient voices, or respond quickly to emerging healthcare, regulatory and governance trends. We need a more streamlined, contemporary governance model that can support rapid decision-making with the right expertise at the table, ultimately delivering better value to our members and the future of general practice in Australia.
