The way forward for general practice education

Ongoing, high-quality education is what enables GPs to provide primary healthcare that meets the needs of all Australians.

And the new RACGP educational framework is the way forward for world-class general practice education.

Developed in collaboration with GPs, GPs in training, experienced medical educators and subject-matter experts, the framework will link to the RACGP’s new strategic plan and will guide the development of all of the college’s educational tools and programs.

The framework will help to ensure general practice education is evidence-based, integrated and responsive to changing national health priorities and the unique needs of our communities.

Central to the framework are the educational guiding principles, which reflect the values, priorities, educational philosophy, and scope of education to which the RACGP is committed.

The principles then inform three key educational instruments:

  • The profile of the general practitioner
  • The Curriculum for Australian General Practice (revised)
  • RACGP education policies and standards (revised)

These instruments will give direction to learners and providers at all levels of general practice education.

View the education framework and provide your feedback on the college website.
